Rick Owens took the basic sweatshirt shape and reworked it into something closer to an open, draped cardigan no zipper, no buttons, nothing to close it with. It’s meant to hang open. Two front panels sit asymmetrically and fall unevenly at the hem, which is where that slab silhouette comes from: heavy, sculptural, a bit unfinished-looking, on purpose.

The hood is oversized, built with enough structure that it actually holds its shape instead of just collapsing. Pull it up and it frames the face. Leave it down and it pools at the back of the neck naturally.

At the chest, there’s a tonal fabric patch. Subtle. Easy to walk right past if you’re not paying attention, which is pretty in line with how Rick Owens usually works the cut does the talking, not a logo.

Fit and Feel

Silhouette Relaxed through the body. Dropped shoulders, elongated raglan sleeves, hem that falls unevenly past the hip. It’s built to be worn open and layered, not zipped up or fitted close to the body.

Hood Oversized, structured enough to hold shape rather than go flat.

Fabric

A heavyweight cotton fleece blend. It gives the piece its weight and structure without feeling stiff. Brushed and soft on the inside for warmth, with a slightly matte, washed-out finish on the outside pretty typical of the muted, dust-toned colors Rick Owens tends to work in.

Details

• Raw or ravel-trim edges along the hem and panel openings, for that deconstructed look
• Minimal, exposed stitching, so seams read as part of the design rather than something tucked away
• Thin self-fabric drawstrings and ties, left loose instead of doing any actual closing
• No zipper, no snaps, no visible branding aside from that chest patch

Styling

Since it’s cut to be worn open, this one works best layered over a plain tee or a fitted long-sleeve, so the draped front panels can do their thing. Slim or tapered trousers, Rick Owens Pants, dark denim any of these help balance the volume up top. It’s less outerwear, more a layering piece that gives shape and texture to an otherwise simple outfit.

Care

Cold hand wash, or gentle machine wash if that’s easier. Lay flat to dry keeps the fabric’s structure and stops the asymmetric hem from warping. Avoid high heat. It’ll flatten the brushed interior and take away from the drape over time.
