Membrane Shirt takes Rick Owens usual earthy, muted colors and slices right through them with a black panel across the chest and stomach, exposing what’s underneath. Part garment, part statement. It’s the kind of piece people stop and stare at.

Design Details

The Cutout

The black membrane panel down the front is the whole point of this shirt. It’s not centered where you’d expect. One edge climbs up near the collarbone, the panel stretches wide across the ribs, then tapers back in toward the hem. Underneath, you can just make out a sheer black mesh enough to hint at skin without fully baring it. Somewhere between armor and undress, if that makes sense.

How to Wear It

Layered

Add a long-sleeve underneath. Black or nude works best under the mesh panel makes the whole outfit look deliberate instead of like something went wrong with the shirt. A lot of Rick Owens Dress pieces are built to be layered like this anyway, not worn solo.

Why It Works

Rick Owens has built a career out of playing with what clothing covers and what it reveals soft against hard, structure against exposure. This shirt is one of the more direct expressions of that idea.
